In April we headed up to Breckenridge for our lil man's testing. He is officially holding his conditional 2nd degree black belt. He will test in October and most likely get the official certificate and be a 2nd degree black belt. Such an accomplishment for him.
He was then off to New York and Washington DC for his 8th grade trip. He enjoyed most of it, but he is an almost 14 year old teenage boy so with that comes the I just want to have fun and no one lets me attitude. But over all he did enjoy his time. These are just a few of his favorite pictures that he took.
He then officially started spring football camp for a week when he got back. He did enjoy that, he caught most of the balls thrown to him, seems to be a fun start for him getting involved in this sport for his new high school. Before we had him start camp we took him for his physical and he is 5'9", I think he may have grown a little more since then even. It's crazy.
He officially turned 14 early this month and spent the day with his friends. He is at that age where spending time with us is just not fun, cool or even remotely close to what he wants to do. We knew it was coming for sure, so we're good with it. As long as he checks in.
He is now in summer football camp where he goes 3 times a week. 2 of the days are weight training and conditioning and the other day is learning drills and such. He said he doesn't like it because it's hard. We laugh and tell him get use to it because nothing in life comes as easy as you want. But then he gets there and spends time with some of his friends and its all good. Lastly he helps out on Fridays at karate, they have a summer camp, so he spends all day there and we get nothing but positive updates on how he is doing with the kids from his instructors.
Now our Pea graduated from Kindergarten which they just called a celebration, so they had a little concert where they sang. It was pretty cute, of course they told us that it was chapel dress. So for chapel dress Pea will usually wear a skirt and shirt, nothing fancy. Well we show up and all these little girls are dressed up like it's Easter dress and the boys too. I was like what, no one said Easter dress, so our little Pea was out there in a bright orange skirt and a shirt that goes with the skirt that says, lets have some fun. HA HA. Only our child, oh and she didn't put lotion on before she left the house so she was itching through the whole performance, you would've thought she was going though withdrawals. We have a great laugh about it.
Oh and the biggest thing was that she cut her own hair so in order to fix it, we had to chop it off. We actually love it short though, and thankfully she finally loves it short. She always wanted it in a pony tail which I hate, and so even after we cut it short she wanted it in a pony tail. Well she hates the fly away hair and she thought the way to fix it was to cut it. So now she has a nice side burn on her right side. I told her that her hair needs to stay down at this point until that part grows out and we can fix that professionally. But in the mean time she now loves it down. WHEW!
Her birthday was at the end of May and she chose to go to Water World. She is not a birthday party kid, she hates when people sing to happy birthday and so we just invited family and had a day at the water park. On her actual birthday she helped me make her birthday cake and we enjoyed that later that evening after dinner.
She did have her 6 year check up since she started a new summer camp. We were shocked to hear that she is in the 95% for both her height and weight. But she has really sprouted in the last year for sure and especially the last 6 months. She is such a handful, but boy a joy. She is also very much a tom boy. I was when I was a little girl, but I just want her to dress in the cute dresses with bows in her hair like I got a way with when she was younger. I even asked her when my little girl was coming back and she said, "yea...she's gone!" I won the battle of clothes these days though, before she was adamant about nothing pink, no flowers and really anything girly, but lately I just put her clothes out and she seems to be wearing them. Praying it stays this way. Notice in this picture below her pink crocs, not sure why those are ok??? HA HA
Between all this she goes to summer camp which is absolutely loves. She wants to be dropped off by 7:30 am and gets mad if we get her before 5:00 PM. She comes home just filthy, but you know she had a blast. She is loving it, goes on field trips and they provide the lunch and both snacks. I am so happy we decided to go with her the summer camp that is on her school groups, it is an extension of the school, but not really the school. We wanted her to be ready to start 1st grade and not forget or feel blah about going back, so think it was the best choice.
We also had my little sister Whitney's high school graduation. That was amazing to watch her, she has grown into a beautiful young women and we're very excited to see where she goes from here on out.
Jason and I have been getting some hiking in here and there and since we're going to be spending a week in Leadville soon with his sister and her family, we're planning on hiking a 14er, Mt. Elbert. Therefore in training mode to be sure my ankles, feet and left hip can handle a close to 9 mile hike.
This was taken in Mid April up North Table Mountain. Golden below as Jason and Bruin look out to the distance.
This was just from this past weekend. We hiked up Belcher Trail to White Ranch and then back down. It was about an 8.3 mile hike and the only thing bugging me seems to be my heel, but I did run a little coming down. Probably shouldn't do that again, but I usually always come down fast, but need to try and slow my pace.
Also saw a couple of concerts at Red Rocks which were fantastic. Chris Tomlin I went with my sisters and best friends, we had the 2nd row and then found out they were filming it to have a DVD come out later. It was absolutely amazing, it was freezing though, but still had a wonderful time. Then Jason went with me to the Hillsong United concert, another amazing night, it was a lot warmer, but smokey with all the fires around the area, it did clear up in the middle of the concert, but again another great night of praise and worship. Jason didn't understand why people raise their hands when they sing, so I explained it is an act of surrender to God and just giving him praise. He said oh I thought you were all calling down lightening or something, I was a little worried. He keeps me laughing. Glad he went with me and he did say he liked it.
So now we're officially in Summer and we're enjoying it to the fullest. Hopefully you all had a great spring and summer is starting off with a bang for you, we hope to enjoy the rest of ours filled with love & laughter.
